JUDO VS. BIKRAM YOGA

KANO VS. BIKRAM

Here are some of the interesting similarities between the sport of Judo, and the disipline of hatha yoga as defined by the Bikram ‘hot room’ style.

Birkram believes we all have an hour and a half each day for good health.  Kano’s emphasis was on the betterment of our society.  He first emphasized bettering yourself, then using that new found development to  help others, and to benefit society through “Mutual welfare “and “Maximum efficiency.”

Professor Jigoro Kano

Bikram Choudhury

JUDO

Professor Kano took the dangerous elements out of the classic martial art of Ju-jitsu to create the sport of Judo.

Judo is very pure, practiced on a tatami mat wearing a Judo Ki.

As Judo is a strenuous activity,  you will work up a sweat in the workout.

It requires a great deal of training and practice to become proficient at Judo.

Girls as well as guys do Judo on an international level.

All exercise is about breath and you cannot continue if your breath is not mastered.

Judo comes from Japan in Northeast Asia.

When practicing Judo, you learn the Japanese name of the techniques. Waza.

When trying Aikido or any other Martial art, you really miss a Judo work out.

There is great respect for the teacher in Judo. Sensei, literally:  lived prior or before.

BIKRAM

Bikram distilled 26 yoga postures out of the classic 84 to create the original Bikram hot yoga series.

Bikram is just as Spartan, practiced on a yoga mat wearing minimal clothing.

Bikram is done in a heated room (105-120) degrees so you are drenched in sweat.

Yoga requires discipline and dedication if one wishes to advance.

Both men and women enjoy the mind and body benefits of any yoga class.

Bikram’s class starts with pranayama or ‘life force’ breath.

Yoga comes from India in South Asia.

When practicing Bikram, you learn the Sanscrit name of the poses. Asana.

If you try another form of Hatha yoga, you miss the Bikram workout.

Particular reverence is placed on the yogi guru.  Literally:  Bringer of light to spiritual ignorance.
